The only woman finisher

Irena Sosinska – the only woman finisher of the Swiss-BikeAdventure this year. Due to hydraulic breaks complete failure just before the start of the race, she had to change to new and unfamiliar bike and then she climbed Col Du Chasseral twice because of a thunderstorm which caught her on the climb and forced her to back down to a safe place. On the way to Schaffhausen she carried her bike over fallen trees that blocked the road after a passing storm the night before. She arrived to the finish line after 1300km with nearly 30000 elevation gain in 5 days and 11 hours.

Congratulations Irena!

3rd finisher 2021: Kai Edel

Kai Edel 3rd finisher of the Swiss-BikeAdventure at the finish in Andermatt. Last year Kai struggled with a broken shifter cable and flats and had to go back to work at Pony Riders Courier Service and he could not finish the route. This year also rain could not stop him and Kai finished in 4 days 11 hours the 1300km and almost 30’000vm route he likes a lot. Swiss-BikeAdventure also crosses Basel, where Kai helps out with work at KurierZentrale.

Congratulation Kai!

2nd finisher 2021: Michele Miani

Michele Miani, 2nd finisher only 1 hour behind Christoph, finished in 3 days and 15 hours the 1300km and almost 30’000vm. After Christoph took over the lead about 200km after the start, Michele was never more then about 4 hours behind Christoph. Unusual heave rains and thunderstorms

The weather in the east and north of Switzerland make this hard challenge even harder. Unusual heave rains and thunderstorms force riders again and again to stop. Irena pushed forward in the night. She made only 35km in 2.5 hours in a generally easy terrain. Fallen trees in the road slowed her down.
Christoph is still in lead and he and Michele cycled Albulapass and Flüelapass last night. He is now in the south of Switzerland in Ticino and has the last two big climbs in front, Nufenenpass and Furkapass. The two will likely finish today at Andermatt.Photo: Christoph last night at Albulapass.

Cycling in sandals and on big mtb flat pedals seems to be the secret.

17 hours after the start, leading Christoph cycled more then 330km and 8000vm. And Christoph is not stopping. Cycling in sandals and on big mtb flat pedals seems to be the secret.
Michele is about 20km behind in second position, followed by Kai with another 20km cap and Sylvan. Maria and Irena stopped before Saanen. While Pavel, Marcel and Carsten stopped at Col du Pillon and Les Diablerets, Urs who had some issues with his bike and a bad stomach, continued and could now overtake them. Nora made it till Oey today.

Christoph Fuhrbach

“I love cycling!

For me it is the best way to travel, to meet different people and see how they live. It is a perfect way to spend more time outside in the nature. Great for relaxing from everyday routine and recharging my batteries naturally and to feel my own self. It is also ecological and healthy. Global justice and sustainability are important to me so that we humans find better way to live more justly. Not to exploit others. All people, animals and plants on this earth should strive together and live well. That is the reason I wear a jersey ”Life in the Anthropocene, the new, human-shaped, geological age. For me, it is about people around the world searching and finding ways where we can live sustainably and in solidarity with one another and at the same time be fit for the future.”

See you in Andermatt Christoph!

SBA is not a piece of cake!

Peter and Martin reached Chasseral yesterday, sadly due to the weather conditions they have scratched from SBA.

They struggled with heavy rains, hailstorms, flooded roads, thunderstorms and cold.

SBA is definitely not a piece of cake!

On top of that the weather this year is making the adventure even more challenging!

Who is going to finish this extreme bike adventure this year?
